Winter Video!

Type: ' euroviv ' to watch.

Yesterday the snow was coming down non-stop. Catalin was working on his laptop, editing a photoshoot from the day before-- I had some free time. Turn your speakers up, there's sound :)

Dinner Impossible

DIY chili powder.

There are two integral parts of a good chili: chili powder and beans. The lack of those ingredients was not going to stop me from making a damn good chili tonight though. No canned beans? Fine, I used dry beans and cooked them for 2 hours. I should mention that I've never cooked beans before (thank God these beans came out fine). No chili powder? I looked up the spices actually found in chili powder and used those. With a little guesstimation and some luck I ended up with a delicious chili for dinner. Victory was sweet, or spicy in this case. Next time I might attempt the cornbread. No, they don't sell cornbread mix in this country either.

Symphony at the Athenaeum

I went to a beautiful place tonight; Ateneul Roman. It is a concert hall built in 1888. I have rarely seen a structure in the US that is so ornate and beautiful. My cell phone pictures don't do it justice, so I've included a photo not taken by me. Also if you'd like to read more about the building's history, visit the wikipedia page. This concert, held in such a location, felt like a real treat. I was very aware that $10 (cost per ticket) in the US would not get me the same experience.

*Above: NOT at the Athenaeum. This is a window seen from within the St. Joseph's Catholic church.

Walk in the park: Cismigiu

Can't wait until these trees are full of leaves.

Above: A view of our street.
Things have finally begun to settle down here in Bucharest. Cata and I are starting a wedding photography business and I am hard at work on the website. Working freelance has its perks, but it is very important to keep business hours (at least that is my opinion). After working for half the day, Cata and I took a short walk in the park. The entrance to Parcul Cismigiu is less than a block away from our apartment. Having it nearby makes for the perfect after-lunch break. And the weather is warming up!

We got a new place! Our old apartment was more of a single-sized space. Our new apartment is considered a 2 room (the living room counts as one of the rooms). We've got everything we need here, as it is furnished, and plenty of room for the two of us. Also there is a balcony that I look forward to using in the summer (no pics yet sorry). Best of all, the location is in downtown Bucharest. We're not far from anything (aka less subway rides for us).

From top: 1. Bedroom 2. Living room (we have two of those chairs). 3. Bookshelf detail 4. Other side of living room (notice I now have a tv:) 5. Our baby kitchen. Now imagine this--- our new kitchen is about double the size of our old kitchen! 6. This small room is the entryway I guess. It is where we hang all our winter gear and shoes. 7. Office corner of the living room.

My story:

Girl meets boy.
Love strikes.
Boy moves to Romania,
girl (now engaged) follows suit.

I'll be living abroad for the first time in my life beginning January 11th 2011. Follow this blog if you want to see my adventures.
